Who We Are

“No Hate, Just Love” is an idea born out of the direct harm done to my community from online radicalization and violent extremism at Columbine High School in 1999, the Arapahoe High School shooting in 2013, the STEM Highlands Ranch High School shooting in 2019, and, most recently, the Evergreen High School shooting. The community I serve in Littleton, Colorado, has been dramatically shaped by extremism and violence, particularly aimed at children. While the violence is not always directly religiously motivated, we know that the online extremist groups use religious beliefs to fuel the hateful rhetoric in our young people.

One thing I have realized, and in speaking with the “authorities” on anti-extremism in Colorado, is that the pace at which extremist online groups (i.e., the incels, groypers, and others) are changing and evolving their language will outpace any amount of work a single person can do to get the information out and available. So, while on the site, people would be able to post what they have learned, along with citations and access to more information. For example, I learned that the “ok” hand signal is a dog whistle for white supremacy, but I had trouble finding how this information could easily be shared with other parents, teachers, and faith leaders.

Additionally, we know that the people who are targeting youth and children for their extremist groups are looking for those who are lonely with unsupervised access to the internet. In this online space, people will share strategies for initiating conversations with loved ones to discuss topics they may encounter on the internet. My hope is that it could be a type of private support group, in addition to public resources.

Essentially, there are resources “out there” for people and for faith communities, but finding those resources can be difficult. So, a user could submit information about a specific topic to be shared on the site. Many of the “faith-based” resources available and accessible are intra-faith, but the goal of this site would be to offer space to people of all lifestances. Hearing from others of different faiths would deepen our understanding of how these online extremist groups operate in various contexts.

Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my website. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.)

…or something like this:

The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickeys to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community.
